How to Get Rid of Blocked Nose and Ears
A nose and sinus condition can make you feel your absolute worst, causing painful pressure behind your eyes and making your nose run endlessly. Over 35 million people suffer from chronic sinusitis each year, making it one of the most common health complaints in the United States.
Although sinus problems can be uncomfortable, there are effective remedies that can help alleviate pain and discomfort. Here are five effective home remedies that can help you tackle the problem naturally:
1. Stay hydrated
Hydration is key when you are experiencing sinus issues. When the body is dehydrated, the mucus inside of our sinuses becomes thick, making it difficult to flow, keeping mucus in the sinuses longer than it should. Drinking fluids and staying hydrated can help thin mucus and drain your sinuses, relieving nasal congestion.

2. Steam treatment
Steam is also a great way to relieve congestion by loosening mucus. To give yourself a steam treatment, you will need a large bowl of hot water and a towel. With your face down above the hot water, drape a large towel over your head and inhale the steam.
Essential oils are a natural alternative to synthetic medications, and certain oils can help clear out your sinuses, giving you a soothing or cooling effect if your nasal passages are clogged. In your steam treatment, try adding 3-5 drops of your favorite essential oil, such as eucalyptus, menthol, or tea tree oil.
3. Spice up your meals
Spicy food can help fight congestion and is a natural way to open up nasal passages. Spices, such as cayenne pepper, have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, which help break up and drain out congested mucus.

4. Saline rinse
Nasal irrigation is very effective for relieving nasal congestion and irritation. These saltwater washes help keep the nasal passages open by washing out thick or dried mucus. Fill a large medical syringe, squeeze bottle or nasal cleansing pot with the saline solution and insert the tip into your nostril. Squeeze gently, aiming the stream of saline solution toward the back of your head, not upwards. The saline wash should go through the nose and come out the mouth or other side of the nose, cleansing out the nasal passages. You can repeat these nasal washes several times a day but make sure to clean the bottle after each use.
5. Warm washcloth compression
Applying heat to the sinus area can help relieve pressure by warming up the nasal passages and loosen secretions. The best way to do this is by using a warm washcloth and draping it across your nose, cheeks and forehead while laying on your back.
